Who is ready for the Springettsbury 10k this weekend? It seems the weather always throws us a surprise for this race. We’ve seen rain, ice, and spring-like temps over the years. Looks like plenty of sun with a chill on Saturday! PLEASE REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR ASSIGNED BIB!

ADDRESS UPDATE – if you are using GPS, 1409 Williams Road York, PA 17402 will get you there.

Apparel orders will be inside at the registration table just waiting to go home with those who ordered. As always, I’ll be there at 7:30 to get you registered or get you set up with a replacement bib if needed.

End of Year Updates

We hope you’ll follow us on our new website.  We’re working hard to make it useful for our YRRC members, but we have a lot to learn and a lot to update.

Yesterday (12/29/2018) was our Winter Series John Rudy Park 5 Miler and 1 Mile event.  We had more than 300 in the main event and more than 100 in the 1 Mile event!!  The results can be found by clicking or tapping on this website menu at YRRC Winter Series/WS Results/Winter Series 2018-19 Results.  We will keep updating as the series progresses.

Planning for the 2019 White Rose Run 5 Miler continues.  You may wonder why we haven’t posted a date yet.  Our board and White Rose committee members believe that it’s best NOT to have the event in downtown York City the same date as York’s Bike Night.  The Bike Night date was announced only two weeks ago, just before the holidays, and they have selected 9/21/2019.  Now we are working to confirm our White Rose date.  It looks like it will be either 9/28/2019 or 10/5/2019 and we will announce as soon as possible.  The White Rose Run information on this website and on runsignup is NOT updated, and will be soon.

Anyone interested in volunteering?  We’d like to fill several positions:

Events Coordinator:  This person will primarily continue our tradition of the Beginner Runners program.  Hal Darr has led this program for many years, actually decades, and feels it’s time to step down.  We hope this important tradition will continue, but everything the club does, including this, requires club member leadership.

Sponsor Coordinator:  This person will, with the assistance of the YRRC Board and the White Rose committee, identify and coordinate with potential sponsors.  Sponsorship is used to defray the costs in putting on the White Rose Run and other programs, including providing funds to donate to the charity that the White Rose supports.

Web Administrator:  Our current web administrator, Ned Einsig, will be moving on at the end of 2019, so we’re looking for someone to learn during 2019 and take over the job in 2020.  We’re using WordPress and runsignup.  Interested?

And we can always use people as volunteers at our events, or to work on  YRRC committees such as the White Rose committee or the Winter Series committee.

If you are interested or have any questions, please feel free to contact us at: presidentyrrc@gmail.com.

And if you are not a YRRC member, we hope you’ll sign up at: runsignup.com/Club/PA/York/YorkRoadRunnersClub

Dallastown Wildcat 10k Announcements

Please remember this race, and the remainder of the Winter Series races, will take place on Saturday mornings. The one mile begins at 8:35am and the main event will start at 9:00am.

Thanks to the race director, we will have Amy Good back again this year with her delicious soups at the finish line! McDonald’s of South Queen Street will also provide hot beverages to warm us up.

Saturday morning weather shows showers, but temps should warm a bit over the next few days. We’ll take it!

If you placed an order for Winter Series apparel over the past two weeks, please stop by the registration table to pick up your items.

Spring Valley 4 Miler

Weather is looking great for Sunday’s Spring Valley 4 Miler! This year we debut a new out-and-back course and a new race director at Spring Valley!!

While we’re excited to be growing as a series, we sometimes run into tight/limited parking at our venues. Get in touch with your running buddies and try to carpool! FOR THE SAFETY OF THE RUNNERS, THERE IS NO PARKING ON CREST ROAD. Please also be mindful of those running the 1 mile race at 12:35 – let’s give them room on the roads to do their thing!!

East Berlin Area Community Center (EBACC) 5K

If you ran the EBACC 5K on 7/21/2018, you’ll want to check out the pictures at our York Road Runners Club Flickr site.  Pictures are by Clay Shaw and you should be able to download them for your own use.  The race, the first of the Run 717 Series, was contested on a typically hot day in July.  We hope you’ll enjoy these images.   You can also see albums from lots of other races at this link.  Dover pictures will be up soon.

The York White Rose Run is now a York Road Runners Club Event

We’re hoping you were lucky enough to participate in the 41st Running of the York White Rose Run 5 Miler on September 15, 2018.  As you had heard, the White Rose is now owned and managed by the York Road Runners Club.

We were amazed and gratified by the turnout and by our wonderful volunteers.   325 of the 348 registered arrived at the start line and completed the race and over 90 dedicated volunteers made everything work so well!   The York White Rose Bar and Grill provided our post-race festivities, including sandwiches and drinks.  They also hosted the Friday evening packet pickup and made a special menu and drink for runners.   Extras included York Revolution’s Cannonball Charlie who started the race and Downtown (the large, blue fuzzy mascot) who greeted runners at the finish line.   Our favorite bagpiper, Rodney Yeaple was at his usual spot at the top of Farquhar Park to help the runners up the hill.  The Temple Guard Drum Line entertained the runners during the first mile of the race and again at the finish line.  Shane Speal and the Snakes provided music at the post-race party.

We sure appreciate your participation as a runner or volunteer and found your feedback on our post-race survey to be super helpful.   The feedback was highly positive with many great suggestions.

Next steps:  We are coordinating with the city to identify the date of the 42nd Running in 2019.   As soon as we know the date, we’ll put out “Save the Date” information on this website, on our YRRC Facebook page, and on the emails sent out by YRRC board member Mark Landis.  We are also eager to get more sponsors for next year.  If you are interested in being a sponsor or know someone who may be interested, please contact Karen Mitchell.
