Hello YRRC Members! My name is Heather Roe. Most of you probably know me as the Winter
Series director who you see at all the races. Or maybe you remember me cheering you on at other YRRC races that I wasn’t running. Now, I am introducing myself in a new capacity as the newly elected York Road Runners Club President.
I have been involved with YRRC for over a decade in numerous roles such as the Membership
Coordinator, Winter Series Coordinator, and Road Running Director. I am very much looking
forward to my new position as President with the Club. While YRRC plays a large role in the
local running community, it also has played a very big role in my personal running adventures.
Over the years, the board members have worked hard to grow this club and I couldn’t be more
excited to see where YRRC is headed moving forward!
At our January board meeting, the newly elected officers started their term. YRRC’s 2024
board members are Larry Baker (Vice President), Kelly Rose (Secretary) and Matt Neff
(Treasurer). YRRC has also added several members to new committee positions. These
individuals bring a lot of talent to the table and many great ideas to continue to grow and unite
the local running community.
This past year our group runs have grown both in size and locations. Thirsty Thursday at Liquid
Hero, Tuesday Evening Trails, Scrubby’s Run and Sign of the Horse Runs offer runners of ALL
paces a fun evening with a few miles followed with socializing at various locations throughout
York County. I am personally inviting each of you to check out any of YRRC’s group runs soon!
YRRC also hosts several races throughout the year. For those who like to “pound the
pavement”, The White Rose 5 miler, Winter Series (where we have added a 9 th race this year),
and The Shoe House Shuffle offer familiar courses with fun competition! York Ridge Runners
has those trail races covered with On the Rocks, Squirrely Tail Twail Wun, Hex Hollow Half, and
the NEW Blazing Saddles races, which all offer scenic courses throughout York County. The
majority of proceeds from these events are used to provide financial support to local charities
and non-profit organizations that benefit the running community.
I am happy to announce that club newsletters will resume this year! If you have an idea for the
newsletter or would like to contribute an article, please reach out. We would love to hear from
our members and have you involved. Besides the newsletter, we will be posting updates,
announcements, and event invites on our social media channels. If you haven’t already, please
follow us on Facebook or Instagram. YRRC’s website provides all the details for races, group
runs, membership and YRRC history – please visit www.yorkroadrunners.com.
In closing, a YRRC past president once said, “if it’s been a while since you’ve run with us,
please check out a group run or YRRC race – I promise it will be an amazing time! Cheers!” and
I couldn’t agree more…………………Looking forward to seeing you on the trail or road soon!
